Preschool
The community preschool program provides a solid foundation for children to develop their cognitive,
social-emotional, and English language skills.
Preschool is a vibrant launchpad for young learners, fostering holistic development through play and exploration. It's where children build crucial social-emotional skills, learning to share, cooperate, and navigate peer interactions in a nurturing environment. Foundational cognitive growth blossoms through engaging activities introducing early literacy (letters, sounds, stories), math (counting, shapes, sorting), and science (observation, inquiry). The curriculum is hands-on, recognizing that children learn best by doing, questioning, and discovering. This carefully designed space encourages independence, creativity, and problem-solving. Skilled educators guide children, nurturing their natural curiosity and building confidence. Beyond academics, preschool is vital for developing language skills, fine and gross motor coordination, and a positive attitude towards learning. It's a crucial bridge to kindergarten, equipping children with the essential social, emotional, and cognitive tools needed to thrive in their educational journey and beyond. It’s a place of wonder and exploration.
Curriculum
English
Our English program cultivates strong early literacy and language skills. Building on recognizing their names in print, children actively explore letter recognition and the sounds letters make (phonics). Children develop print awareness, understanding how books work and that print carries meaning. We engage in rich vocabulary building through diverse texts and discussions, fostering comprehension and expressive language. Through guided writing activities, they begin to form letters and explore written communication, establishing a strong foundation for reading and writing in future years.
Math
In our early Math program, four-year-olds develop a deeper understanding of numbers and mathematical concepts. We move beyond rote counting to build number sense, including quantity, number recognition, and sequencing. Children explore one-to-one correspondence, simple sorting and classifying by multiple attributes, and recognizing and creating basic patterns. We introduce foundational geometry through identifying and describing 2D and 3D shapes. Early problem-solving skills are fostered through hands-on activities and guided mathematical thinking.
Science
Our Science curriculum encourages students to think like scientists. Through structured observation and simple experiments, children explore the properties of matter, observe physical changes, and investigate the natural world. They learn to ask questions, make predictions based on observations, and discuss their findings. We introduce basic concepts related to living things and their environments. This real-world approach, made possible by our vast outdoor spaces, fosters critical thinking, problem-solving, and a foundational understanding of scientific principles.
Social Studies
Social Studies in the early years focuses on building an understanding of self, family, and community within a broader context. Children learn about roles and responsibilities within the classroom and explore different community helpers. We introduce basic concepts related to their immediate environment, including simple maps. Diversity and cultural awareness are fostered through exploring various traditions and perspectives. Children develop essential social-emotional skills, learning to collaborate, problem-solve, and understand their place as part of a larger group.
